Despite the pandemic, there are still some events happening around Colorado to celebrate Memorial Day.
Here are some things you can do on Monday:
Denver Memorial Day flower tribute
Victory for Veterans is hosting a flower tribute at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday.
Organizer Mikel J. Burroughs said that anyone can volunteer, but is asked to bring at least two dozen or more flowers per person. Roses are preferred, but volunteers can bring any type of bouquet. Volunteers are asked to arrive between 8 and 9 a.m.
If you are unable to attend, donations can be made on the Victory for Veterans website. Fifty cents is donated to programs supporting veteran suicide prevention for every flower sponsored.
Grand Lake Memorial Day parade and ceremony
The Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce and Grand County Veterans are hosting a parade to celebrate Memorial Day. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. and end around 1 p.m. on Monday.
Parade participants will travel down Grand Avenue. Following the event, a service to honor veterans is scheduled in Grand Lake’s Town Park.
Commerce City Memorial Day ceremony
A ceremony to celebrate veterans will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 6015 Forest Drive. This ceremony will include a wreath-laying, a performance by the color guard and more.
This event is open to the public, however, it also can be streamed on the city’s Facebook page.
Fort Lupton Memorial Day service
The city of Fort Lupton is hosting a service at Hillside Cemetery, located at 13750 County Road 12, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. The ceremony will start with a vintage flyover at 9:25 a.m., followed by speakers, a presentation of colors and other demonstrations.
Colorado Springs memorials
Residents are able to pay respects to fallen veterans at multiple sites around Colorado Springs. Memorial Park dedicates a memorial for each branch of the military.
Additionally, the U.S. Air Force Academy houses both the Harmon Memorial and the Graduate War Memorial. The Harmon Memorial honors Lt. Gen. Hubert R. Harmon, the founder of the Air Force Academy and a World War II veteran. The War Memorial contains names of academy graduates who have lost their lives in combat.
Finally, the National Museum of World War II Aviation has multiple exhibits that celebrate World War II-era veterans. The museum is closed on Memorial Day, but the public is welcome on Sunday. Tickets range from $11 to $15, but patrons are encouraged to make reservations, picking a specific date online.
