A Conor McGregor lookalike who rammed into a police car, broke lockdown restrictions and was caught with cocaine and a fake gun has been jailed for a year.

Mark Nye, 36, was caught on camera ramming into an oncoming police vehicle after being pulled over during a traffic stop in Surrey in March 2020. While under investigation for the crash, he was arrested for violating COVID protocols.

He was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday after having pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, possession of imitation firearm in a public place and possession of class A drugs.

Nye, who has been branded the doppelgänger of the UFC champion, was also disqualified from driving for three-and-a-half years once he is released from prison.

Dash cam footage showed how he hurtled his black Ford 4×4 towards an oncoming police vehicle in a bid to get away from the officer who had been questioning him

Nye’s serious of offences began March 10, 2020 when officers halted him on a traffic stop in Yeoman Drive in Staines-on-Thames at around 7.10pm.

Dash cam footage showed how he hurtled his black Ford 4×4 towards an oncoming police vehicle in a bid to get away from the officer who had been questioning him.

The clip showed Nye mount the pavement of the residential road to try and get round the patrol car, before ramming past it as an officer chased after him.

After fleeing on foot and getting into another getaway car, Nye was finally arrested. He was bailed while the incident remained under investigation.

He was then stopped again on April 16, 2020 after being caught breaking lockdown. He was found with an imitation firearm and small bags of cocaine.

Detective Constable Phil Haffenden, the investigating officer, said today: ‘Since the incident, the officer involved has suffered from chronic pain in his hand and left with a permanent disability.

‘Nye had no consideration for the safety of the officers involved or members of the public that could have been put in danger by his dangerous driving.. I am pleased that Nye will now spend time in prison for his crime.’

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: ‘Mr Nye was asked to pull over by officers after acting suspiciously and rather than comply, he rammed the police car before fleeing the scene.

‘He rammed a police vehicle causing an officer to fracture his wrist.

‘After abandoning the car and getting into another vehicle, Nye was finally apprehended by officers and arrested.

‘During a thorough search of the vehicle Nye had abandoned, several small bags of cocaine were found.

‘Whilst under investigation for these offences, Nye was again stopped by officers on April 16 of that year for breaching coronavirus restrictions and was found to be in possession of an imitation firearm, leading to him being arrested for this further offence.’
