A cop has been fired after getting the words "pure evil" tattooed on his knuckles after the force feared it could cause "extraordinary damage."
Eric Weyda was let go from his position after 16 years of service in April – just four months after a high ranking officer spotted a tattoo on his hand.
The policeman, who was based at Cincinnati Police Department in Ohio, claims his tattoos did not portray his personality or character.
He said the inkings were misinterpreted and were meant to represent the “struggle” between purity and evil, reports NBC News affiliate WLWT5.
According to internal records obtained by the station, Weyda was originally reassigned to work with the department’s impound lot to restrict his interactions with the public.
His inking goes against the departments guidelines which prevents officers from getting tattoos on their hands, face, neck and head.
“Officer Weyda’s tattoos do not promote the professional and neutral image of the Cincinnati Police Department and are injurious to the public trust,” a police captain for a disciplinary hearing.
“Officer Weyda’s message also has the very real possibility to cause extraordinary damage to police-community relations both locally and nationally.”
It has since been revealed that the officer was recently for doing a burnout in the departments car park.
Brits banged up abroad for bizarre reasons – from boozy circus break-in to 5p firework
Weyda was also addressed for his low attendance and his use of language when responding to calls for help.
The department highlighted his annual reviews over the past four years were unsatisfactory and he was disciplined for his role in investigations and apprehending a suspect in 2012 and 2013.
It has been reported that the officer was dismissed from the force over insubordination and failure of good behaviour.
The records mentioned that Weyda was remorseful about his controversial tattoos but rejected the idea of removal because of the costly process.
He is trying to get his job back by making enquiries through his local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.
