Three children who lost their mother in a New York nursing home at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year want “justice” for their loved one and say Gov. Andrew Cuomo needs to be investigated for trying to cover up the number of senior deaths linked to the facilities.
“You pat yourself on the back and tell everyone how good you’re doing, at the same time you’re lying about the lives that are being lost,” Ted Minissale, whose 93-year-old mom Agnes Minissale died in a nursing home, said on Fox & Friends Monday morning.
“It’s just terrible, absolutely terrible.”
The heartbroken adult children said prior to the lockdown, they would see their mother almost every night — they’d eat dinner with her, walk her to the nearby chapel and bring her to bed, they said on the show.
Daughter Cindy Lizzi said not being able to see her mom before she died was “devastating.”
The children said the issue shouldn’t be a partisan concern. They pointed to state Attorney General Letitia James’ scathing report on the number of deaths and said it should serve as a bipartisan catalyst for reopening a Department of Justice probe into Cuomo.
Ted Minissale said he also lost his father-in-law to the virus in the same nursing home where he lost his mother — he and his siblings said if the DOJ finds wrongdoing by Cuomo, the governor needs to own up to what he did and be brought to justice.
Last March, the state issued a controversial directive ordering nursing homes and other senior centers to take in COVID-19 positive patients, which led the virus to spread through the facilities like wildfire. At least 15,000 New Yorkers were killed, nearly double what the state previously reported.
Last week, The Post exclusively revealed an audio recording of the governor’s secretary Melissa DeRosa admitting the state tried to cover up the number of deaths because they feared the data could “be used against us” by the Justice Department.
