Bank error, not in his favor.
A bank customer may be in line for a nice payday after he was trapped inside a branch for two hours in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco.
Ezequiel da Silva was on his way home when he decided to stop at an Itaú branch in downtown Recife on Tuesday to withdraw money and see if his paycheck had cleared.
Before entering the building, da Silva, who works as a porter for the medical examiner’s office, asked a guard on site if the bank had closed, according to news outlet G1.
Da Silva recalled swiping his bank card at the door to enter the area where the 24-hour ATM was located when his nightmare began.

Ezequiel da Silva said a guard at the Itaú bank branch in downtown Recife told him the bank was open when he went to withdraw funds from a 24-hour ATM machine
‘I went in to see if my salary had entered (the account) and when I came back the bank was locked and I was stuck here,’ he said.
The customer sought help by screaming at pedestrians and tried calling the police to no avail.
Da Silva complained to G1 he had been working all day and badly wanted to have a meal, but was losing hope because nobody was acknowledging his cry for help.

Da Silva shared video while he was trapped inside the bank showing the dark hallway as he waited for rescue.
He desperately reached out to the outlet later in the evening and they managed to call the Military Police.
But during the call, a bank security showed up and let da Silva out of the branch.
A police unit later arrived and accompanied da Silva to a station, where he was able to file a report.
Itaú released a statement apologizing to da Silva and said it was available to support him in anyway possible.
‘We are investigating the case to identify and correct any flaws in the processes in order to prevent an incident like this from happening again’.
