Dad faces jail after admitting his 'dangerous' Chow-Chow cross mauled his 12-day-old son to death

THE dad of a newborn baby mauled to death by the family dog faces jail after admitting to owning a dangerous animal.

Elon Ellis-Joynes was 12 days old when he was attacked by a Chow-Chow-cross at his home in Doncaster on September 13, 2020.

Elon's parents: Abigail Ellis, 28, and Steven Joynes, 36, of Welfare Road, Woodlands, Doncaster, were both charged following the incident.

Joynes pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court today to one charge of being the owner of a dog which caused death when dangerously out of control.

Ellis, who also appeared in court on Thursday, denied the same charge at a previous hearing and is due to go on trial on July 11.

Heartbroken mum Abigail Ellis, 27, had popped upstairs to the toilet when the dog, Teddy escaped from a garden pen.

Elon's dad, Steven Joynes, 35, was outside playing with another child when the incident occurred in Doncaster, South Yorks.

Ellis frantically rang 999 shortly after 3pm and told the call handler Elon was still breathing but was "really poorly".

Coroner's officer David Copley told the court: "He was bleeding from his leg or his tummy, she thought that one of the dogs had bitten Elon.

"She had been on the toilet and her partner Steven was outside with another child and came running in.

"Officers attended and Steven Joynes identified Elon to police officers."

Tragic Elon, who was born on September 1, was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
