Dad in 'world of stress' as £200k newbuild Taylor Wimpey home has 'string of faults’ including loose bricks & MOULD

A DAD has been left in a "world of stress" after his £200,000 newbuild home had several faults – including loose bricks and mould.

Tom Kennedy, 39, moved into his brand new Taylor Wimpey property in Golborne, Wigan, with his fiancée Vicky Harris, 42, and their children Summer, 21, Scarlett, 11, and Maisie, three.

But he quickly discovered a list of faults "at least as long as his arm" – including an uneven living room and bedroom floors and gaps around the front door.

Tom – who is just three weeks away from his wedding to headmistress Vicky – told the Sun: "It has caused me an absolute world of stress.

"It isn't what we signed up for. Everything it should have been it wasn't.

"If I knew I would have run a mile. I regretted buying from them."

He added: "Me and my partner Vicky have been together for two-and-a-half years so we are a family.

"Vick has kids from a previous relationship and I have girl, Maisie, so this move was a big deal for us.

"I am not an unreasonable man with my approach when you buy a new build you expect some snagging issues. I know what stuff to look for.

"Some of the stuff that was wrong with this property, the stuff I was seeing, wasn't snagging issues."

Video footage shows a wobbly brick underneath the window, while mould-coated loft walls can be seen in pictures.

He said the uneven and lumpy garden means little Maisie "often falls down".

Tom added: "Every time a builder comes he created a job with how poor his work was.

"I am sick to death of people coming to the property, I say 'what are they here for this time?'.

Tom found a list of faults “as long as his arm”

Some of the snags Tom spotted included:

  • Loose fitting bricks that wobble
  • Uneven living room floor
  • Front door had to be removed and redone as was not "straight or correctly sealed"
  • Condensation and damp mould caused by extractor fans not being connected and venting into the loft space
  • Uneven master bedroom floor
  • Kitchen plinths were damaged by a contractor and had to all be replaced
  • "Uneven and lumpy" front and back gardens

"I have a list at least as long as my arm. From our point of view the garden thing in particular has been a real pain in the a*** for us.

"Pretty much every surface in the property has had to have remedial plaster and paint work done to it."

The gaps around the front door have since been rectified.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: "Taylor Wimpey is committed to delivering homes of the highest standards and providing excellent customer service.

"We have acknowledged this customer’s complaint and have rectified the majority of issues raised.

"Where there may still be outstanding concerns, we remain closely engaged with this customer to resolve them as soon as possible.

"We ask all our customers to contact Taylor Wimpey directly so that we can promptly address any issues.

"We always look to do the right thing and take all complaints seriously, undertaking the necessary steps to achieve a fair outcome."
