A NOTORIOUS serial killer who killed three generations of the same family with a metal bar has died in jail.
David Morris, 59, was found guilty of the notorious Clydach murders 22 years ago but supporters have always maintained his innocence.
Mandy Power, 34, her children Katie, 10, and Emily, eight, were killed along with grandmother Doris Dawson, 80, at their home in Clydach, Swansea.
He was being held at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire when he died today.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "HMP Long Lartin prisoner David Morris died on August 20. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed.”
His death will be referred to the coroner.
Morris was sentenced to four life sentences in 2002 but his conviction was later quashed but he was again found guilty at a retrial.
But campaigners wanted two police officers, twins Stephen and Stuart Lewis, investigated after a new eyewitness accused them of being near the scene.
The Lewis's were questioned at the time of the killings because Stephen's wife Alison was having a lesbian affair with Mandy Powers.
A fresh investigation by independent officers was ordered by the CPS said earlier this year that there was no need action.
Mrs Dawson was beaten to death with a heavy fibreglass pole.
Ms Power then returned home with her daughters and they were all killed in the same way.
A court heard Morris sexually assaulted and killed Ms Power before inflicting devastating head injuries on her daughters.
He washed his clothes in the shower and starting fires around the house to try to cover his tracks.
Firefighters and police found the bodies laid out in the hall.
A bloodstained gold necklace was found at the scene which Morris eventually admitted was his.
He claimed it was broken and he'd left it in Ms Power's house after going around there for a coffee.
The court heard Morris got a new chain and rubbed it in cement and damaged the clasp to make it look like his old one.
Three others were arrested and questioned before Morris was eventually charged with the murders.
