Death mystery as human remains found in river while cops launch urgent probe and plea for information

HUMAN remains have been found in a river as police launched an urgent probe and public plea for information.

Cops were called after a member of the public made the grim discovery at the River Severn in Cressage, Shropshire, just before 9.15pm last night.

A passerby spotted what they believed to be human remains in the water last night – triggering the probe.

Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene following the harrowing report.

Officers have confirmed the remains were human – and they said it's believed the body had been in the water for a "significant amount of time."

The grim discovery has triggered a probe, and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

All lines of enquiry are being explored, cops said.

Their priority is to identify the body found in the water as the investigation into the mystery continues.

West Merica Police's Detective Chief Inspector John Weaver said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and enquiries are ongoing.

“Our priority at this stage is to identify the deceased.
