Denver police arrest suspect in assault near 16th Street Mall that led to victim’s death

A man found with severe head trauma after an assault early Monday near Denver’s 16th Street Mall has died and police have arrested a suspect.

Police responded to the 2 a.m. call and the man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Denver police said in a news release. The police identified and arrested Christopher Williams, 28, for the assault that led to the death, and investigators were trying to determine whether he and the victim knew each other.

Williams was being held Monday for investigation of first-degree murder.
