A DEVASTATED mum screamed "why is this happening to us" and broke down in tears after a baby died suddenly at home.
Neighbours on Castleton Road, Teesside, have spoken of their shock after the tot died in a house on their street.
Concerned locals watched on as a number of paramedics and police officers attended the tragic scene early on Sunday morning.
One witnessed a baby being carried away by paramedics as an heartbroken woman – believed to be the child's mother – cried out in the street.
The baby is understood to be between four and seven weeks old.
Floral tributes left outside the Stockton home paid tribute to a "little princess" and "brightest star in the sky".

No cops or any other emergency vehicles were seen in the street yesterday afternoon.
One neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “My partner was getting ready to go to work on Sunday morning and she heard a scream followed by sirens.
“She looked out of the window and saw a baby in the paramedic’s arms.
“There was a woman who cried out ‘why is this happening to us’.

“The police were also there all day. They took the baby and the lady to University Hospital of North Tees.
“I asked the police later on how the baby was and they told me they were investigating a serious incident, which is when I knew something had happened."
She continued: “It’s just horrible. The baby was only about seven weeks old.
“I feel sorry for anyone involved. You don’t expect it to happen in your street.
“It’s something you read about happening somewhere else. No-one has been back to the house since.”
Another local said: “It’s very sad news.
“We were very shocked when we found out. I think the child was only about a month old.
“She only moved in two months ago and was pregnant at the time.
“On the day that it happened we were going to a wedding so we were out of town."
Another neighbour said: “I heard screaming and I looked out the window.
“Four or five police vans arrived and then the ambulance. I saw them take the woman into the ambulance.
“A man came out to speak with the police and he mentioned ‘baby’, which was the only thing I heard, but I didn’t know whose baby was at the time.
“There was screaming and a lot of noise. She was screaming and crying as she got in the ambulance.”

The neighbour's wife said: “It’s very sad. We didn’t know the family, I saw her pushing a pram but I didn’t really see the baby inside as it was always covered.
“We didn’t know the gender of it but it looked like a small baby judging by the size of the buggy.”
