KILLER drivers will face life behind bars as part of a tough new crackdown to make streets safer.
Those who cause death by speeding, drink or drug driving or while using a mobile phone will face the maximum term in new laws from Tuesday.
The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act will also create a new offence of causing serious injury by careless driving.
About a third of drivers who kill or maim avoid prison.
Justice Secretary Dominic Raab said: “Too many lives have been lost to reckless behaviour behind the wheel.”
