Easter heatwave continues with parts of UK set to be hotter than Ibiza today

The UK's Easter mini heatwave is set to continue today (Saturday April 16) after yesterday marked the hottest day of the year so far.

Brits were sweltering on Good Friday, particularly in St James Park, London where the record 22C temperature was registered.

The continued dominance of high pressure systems will bring similar temperatures today, making the UK warmer than sunny Ibiza.

Moreover, today the warm spots should stretch further north, according to the Met Office, meaning more Brits will be able to bask in the scorching sun.

In their latest video weather forecast meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: "More in the way of sunshine across north-eastern England compared to Good Friday as well, and drier for Northern Ireland.

"[The] best of the sunshine [will come] across central and southern England. Not quite as warm as Good Friday but highs still around 21C, possibly 22C."

The Met Office predict afternoon highs of 21C in London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Manchester, with the south coast, East Anglia and the North East hovering at around 18C.

In comparison, temperatures in Ibiza today are set to reach 20C.

Northern Ireland and Scotland should be slightly cooler at around 16C, according to the Met Office.

Unfortunately, conditions are expected to cool down on Sunday and heading into next week as low pressure systems begin to take hold.

The Met Office's forecast for the start of next week reads: "Cooler and more unsettled with some showers or rain, but also with bright or sunny spells. Winds mostly light or moderate, but fresh at times in the north."

Netweather have temperatures peaking at 18C tomorrow in London, down to 16C on Monday before a considerable drop off as the week progresses.

There should still be "plenty of dry weather with sunny spells", according to the Met Office, "but also some showers or periods of rain" as temperatures drop down to their average levels.
