Ed Sheeran’s Notting Hill restaurant Bertie Blossoms is offering half-price white wine with its Deliveroo orders to lure customers during lockdown

  • Upmarket Bertie Blossoms in Notting Hill is offering 50 per cent off white wine
  • It has signed a deal with Deliveroo to bring meals to customers’ doors
  • The Shape of You singer, 30, was forced to shut the restaurant last March

Ed Sheeran has offered 50 per cent off white wine in an effort to lure customers to order takeaway from his trendy Notting Hill restaurant.

Upmarket Bertie Blossoms, on Portobello Road in West London, has signed up to Deliveroo where the cost of wine was cut in half.

The restaurant – named in honour of Sheeran’s wife Cherry Seaborn – only opened in September 2019.

But The Shape of You singer, 30 was forced to shut the restaurant last March due to the pandemic.

It comes after Sheeran – who is worth £170million – refused to furlough his ten staff at the restaurant, instead paying their wages out of his own pocket.

The eatery – whose celebrity customers include Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy – is now offering cut-price alcohol with its takeaway deliveries.

Sheeran’s three-course, eat-at-home, dinners cost up to £26.50 per head and its main courses include pasta with vodka sauce.

The restaurant’s Instagram was updated three days ago with a post reading: ‘We’re on Deliveroo. Now delivering Tues to Fri: 5pm-9pm and Saturday: 12pm-9pm.’

It included its full takeaway menu and added: ‘Try this gorgeous grilled chicken on a couscous salad or plenty of other delicious treats on the menu.

‘We are also serving a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Go to the deliveroo app to order now ‘

There are four starters to choose from – Breaded halloumi fries, with sriracha mayo for £6.50 or Chicken and chorizo croquettes, with garlic mayo for £7.

Or Duck liver parfait with chutney toast for £6.50 and Falafel balls served with tzatziki for £6.

As well as the Rigatoni a la vodka – which is £11 – there is also the Couscous salad, with either grilled chicken or grilled halloumi for £12.50.

Alternatives include the £11.50 Roasted butternut squash with a chickpea, feta and pine nut salad or the £14 roast pork belly which comes with rosemary new potatoes and baby carrots.

Finally there is Slow cooked beef brisket, mustard mash and pickled red cabbage for £15.

For pudding, customers can chose between Sticky date pudding with toffee sauce or a Chocolate brownie – both £4.50.

Customer Ryan Gilligan said: ‘I’m so f*****g happy that I can get your food.’ Belinda said: ‘Fantastic.’

But a frustrated Alexa Simone said: ‘*God looks delicious. I think you’re too far away for us.’

One customer said: ‘Oh heck yeah.’

It comes after a spokesman for Sheeran confirmed he would not ask the Treasury to pay up to 80 per cent of the restaurant staff’s salaries, up to a threshold of £2,500 per month.

Meanwhile, Victoria Beckham, who with her husband David is worth an estimated £355million, sparked fury last April by seeking taxpayer assistance to pay 30 staff at her fashion label during the coronavirus crisis.

A spokesperson for Sheeran told The Sun: ‘The business, co-owned by Ed Sheeran and Stuart Camp, is not, and will not, be accessing any Government scheme of any kind, including furloughing, grants, loans and so on.’

In April last year, it was reported that Sheeran and his business partner parted ways with Alex Hughes, the manager of their west London venture. Pictured, Sheeran with his wife Cherry Seaborn watching Ipswich Town in 2018

Mr Sheeran has around 10 staff running the bar and kitchen at Bertie Blossoms. In April last year it was reported they were not going to be put on furlough

Co-owned with his manager Stuart Camp, the pub has been billed as a ‘bright green, low-lit bar set over two floors with extensive drinks list including house cocktails’.

In April last year, it was reported that Sheeran and his business partner parted ways with Alex Hughes, the manager of their west London venture.

It was just one of a string of controversies for the star. Last year Sheeran was granted permission to turn his upmarket eatery into a bar despite neighbours having previously complained about noisy punters.

The artist asked the council if he could serve alcohol at the diner, but locals feared allowing people to drink without also making them eat would attract a ‘different kind of customer’.

An application was submitted to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) in November 2019 to allow Bertie Blossoms to serve just drinks as long as customers were sat down.

As of early 2020, visitors were able to just enjoy a drink, rather than sitting through a meal.

MailOnline has contacted Ed Sheeran’s representative for comment.
