Emergency as mystery illness breaks out at nursery with kids falling sick while firefighters rush to the scene

FIRE and rescue teams have been called to reports of a mystery illness outbreak at a pre-school.

Emergency services were called to reports of a small number of staff and pupils falling ill at Kindred Huntingdon Day Nursery in Brampton, Cambs.

Staff and pupils at the school experienced "mild symptoms" including a rash and a cough.

Cambridgeshire Live reports around 13 out of 68 people had been displaying the symptoms.

One person, who claims to have been at the scene when the mysterious illness broke out, said parents are being encouraged to collect their children and shower them.

An investigation is under way to find out what caused the outbreak.

There is believed to be no threat to the community.

The children are now safe and being looked after, and their parents have been notified.

"A small number of children and staff at a nursery are feeling unwell and have experienced some mild symptoms including a rash and cough. We are currently investigating the cause of this and as a precaution have emergency service staff on site.

"Parents have been notified and the children are safe and being looked after. We are working together with the nursery to determine what the cause may be and if any measures need to be put in place to stop any further instances happening.
