England WAGs 'to be surrounded by private security at Qatar World Cup'

England WAGs ‘will be surrounded by “ring of steel” private security while attending World Cup in Qatar’

  • Partners of England’s football team are reportedly set to be surrounded by private security guards in Qatar when they watch World Cup games
  • The England WAGs are reportedly set to be staying on a £1billion cruise liner
  • Qatar has strict rules, including a ban on public displays of affection and alcohol

The wives and girlfriends of England’s football team will be surrounded by private security during the World Cup in Qatar, it has been claimed.

The England WAGs – from Harry Kane’s wife Kate to Jordan Pickford’s childhood sweetheart Megan Davison – are reportedly set to be staying on a £1billion cruise liner during the tournament.

They will reportedly be surrounded by private security guards who will form a ‘ring of steel’ around the WAGs when they walk the streets of Qatar and head to watch their partner’s play.

Some of the women will be paying for their own bodyguards, but others will receive security that will be paid for by the FA, according to The Sun.

Sources told the newspaper that the security teams will protect the footballers’ families from being targeted by robbers and criminals.

It comes amid reports that the women have been given a strict list of rules to follow while they are in Qatar, including a ban on public displays of affection, as well as an order to dress modestly when they attend matches.

A source told the Sun: ‘There will be a ring of steel around the WAGs. Many of the players are paying for their own security and the FA are taking steps too.

‘Remember, a lot of the wives and girlfriends flying out there will be taking jewellery and clothing worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. This makes them a target for robbers and criminals.’

The source added: ‘It’s very common now for players to take bodyguards on holiday with them, so having them at the World Cup, where the Wags could be for weeks, is the ultimate insurance policy.

‘It will help give the players a bit of peace of mind too and be able to concentrate on the football.’

The FA declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline, saying they never comment on matters of security.

Packages on the cruise liner, which will be situated in Doha Port, begin at £6,000 for the footballers’ families to stay on the luxury liner, with model Anna Modler, 24, who is dating defender Eric Dier, 28, rumoured to be among them.

The cruise liner boasts beauty salons, boutiques, dodgems, six swimming pools, 14 ocean-view jacuzzies and the longest dry-slide at sea titled The Venom Drop to keep them entertained between matches.

A Sportplex zone offers basketball, bumper cars and even a roller disco rink.

In addition to 13 restaurants and bars, the cruise liner features a micro-brewery and mixology classes in its Elixir gin bar.

According to The Sun, other WAGs set to live aboard the MSC World Europa for a month include air hostess Georgina Irwin, 26, who is engaged to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, 24.

Phil Foden’s girlfriend Rebecca Cooke, 22, is said to be among those to have expressed an interest in staying on it along with the Manchester City ace’s family.

Fern Maguire, 27 – the wife of Harry Maguire, 29 – is also expected to relocate to the Middle East to support her man during the tournament, which starts in November.

Ahead of the World Cup, pressure has mounted in Qatar over its criminalisation of homosexuality.

Qatari law calls for a prison sentence of one to three years for adults convicted of consensual gay or lesbian sex. European soccer federations last month with a rainbow heart design as part of an anti-discrimination campaign during international matches.

Qatar has said all are welcome at the World Cup, including LGBTQ fans, but that visitors should respect the country’s conservative culture, in which public displays of affection — even among heterosexuals — is taboo.
