Eurotunnel finally reopens loos after closing them for 27 MONTHS due to Covid rules

  • Le Shuttle, with terminals in Folkestone and Calais, closed toilets in March 2020
  • The loos remained closed despite England lifting all Covid travel restrictions
  • France removed legal requirement to wear masks on public transport on May 16

Eurotunnel passengers caught short while crossing the Channel can breathe a sigh of relief as its toilets have reopened – after Covid restrictions brought in 27 months ago were finally scrapped.

Le Shuttle, which whisks motorists between terminals in Folkestone and Calais, closed its loos in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

Despite England lifting all Covid travel restrictions in March this year, the French operator of Eurotunnel kept toilets out of bounds during the 35-minute journey.

Before the reopening, one disabled passenger, writing on Tripadvisor, said: ‘I can’t use the toilets on-board, apparently because of Covid.

‘I have an internal pouch, so when I need to go to the toilet, it means now.’

France lifted most of its Covid curbs in March, but did not remove the legal requirement to wear masks on public transport until May 16.

Eurotunnel said last night: ‘Now that Covid travel restrictions have been lifted, we are able to reopen all the usual terminal and on-board services to welcome customers.’
