That’s just not cricket! Fans slam Lords over ‘scandalous’ views from £100 seats in new £53million stands after they were left unable to see the pitch during second Test between England and India
- Compton and Edrich stands were opened on Thursday with £100 tickets on sale
- Fans slammed the new seating saying their view was blocked by media centre
- Cricket reporter said: ‘We’ll look back and wonder why people stopped coming’
Fans have slammed the view from the £53million new stands at Lord’s cricket ground saying they are unable to see the whole pitch.
The Compton and Edrich stands at the home of cricket were officially opened on Thursday for Day One of the Test between England and India.
They add 2,500 extra seats to the ground capacity and have 11,500 seats between them to the home of English cricket.
But fans criticised them saying some of the seats had the view blocked by the media centre despite forking out over £100 for tickets.
Angry Nic Copeland fumed: ‘You might think that for £135 you’d at least be able to see the whole ground. First impression of new stands? Less than impressed.’

Paul Williams had the same problem and also slammed the new toilets.
He said: ‘You must be near me. That’s my view too. Also, the new toilets are those troughs where everyone squeezes together and the urine sprays all over the place. Disgusting.’
Dmitri Old added: ‘In my honest opinion, absolutely scandalous. That is a restricted view seat, and if it is not labelled as such, is misrepresentation.
‘Expect nothing less from the money-grabbing thieves in charge of the game and our grounds.’
Toby Coscialca fumed: ‘Ridiculous. How many seats would you estimate have a restricted view like this?’
Colin Letford ranted: ‘£135 for that. They really don’t care about cricket fans.
Conrad Brunner said he had a similar problem at another match.
He said: ‘I paid £100 for two seats vs South Africa, and we couldn’t see a scoreboard, back of the Mound Stand. Haven’t been back since.’
ESPN cricket correspondent George Dobell said: ‘One day we’ll look back and wonder why people stopped coming.’
Cricket fans have taken to social media to vent their frustration over the restricted views
A MCC spokesperson said: ‘The new Compton and Edrich stands boast some of the best seats in world cricket.
‘As with all stands in any sports ground, restricted views are inevitable, however, the unique design of the new Compton and Edrich stands ensured restricted views were kept to a minimum.
‘Over 95 per cent of the stands have a good seat view with only 14 seats in the 11,600 seater stands having an obstructed view.
‘Our ticketing platform allows purchasers to see a 3D digital view of each seat before purchase and tickets with a restricted view are sold.
‘With the caveat, that the ticket holder’s view of the full field of play may be unavoidably impaired.
‘Such tickets are clearly marked as ‘Restricted View’ on purchase and priced accordingly.
‘Tickets to watch international cricket at Lord’s are sold across six main categories and start from £50 for an adult and £10 for under 16s.
‘The redeveloped Compton and Edrich stands were officially opened on the first day of the England v India Test Match at Lord’s by MCC President Kumar Sangakkara.
‘Spectators benefit from numerous integrated catering and washroom facilities, located in close proximity to seats at all levels, ensuring minimal time away from the cricket action on the Ground, while providing excellent sightlines and unparalleled views of Lord’s.’
India have a narrow 154 run lead and four wickets in hand as England chase victory on the last day of the test today.
