YOU thought Brexit divided the nation, but Megxit has really got us fired up. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan’s intention to resign as “senior royals” has been the nation’s talking point since their bombshell announcement last week.
Hundreds of YOU have written in with your thoughts, by email and on text. Here we share some of your views on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s split from The Firm.
Should they keep their perks?
HAVING grown up in the royal household, Prince Harry should know that the HRH title is not compatible with a part-time job.
He should be given 28 days to decide whether he and his wife want to keep the titles — with the perks such as taxpayer-funded security and the obligations like being seen at Sandringham at Christmas — or surrender them and have the freedom to do whatever they want.
Jim Warren from Bath
I AM not a university educated person but I do know the meaning of “independence”. Having royal protection, receiving £2million a year from the Duchy and having Frogmore Cottage at their disposal is not financial independence. Give taxpayers some credit. If you want to leave the UK, don’t expect us to keep you in comfort. Get a job.
Peter Jackson from Leeds
HARRY should have been given an ultimatum. How disappointing this has all been, when royals openly show that all they think about are themselves. All we have heard is about how Harry will have to pay tax and possibly £5,000-a-month rent for his “cottage” if he leaves.
Every low-paid person in this country has to pay tax and for a roof over their head. Why don’t they? If Harry wants to leave then he should be free to do so like anyone else on the understanding that all titles and payments will be forfeited. It is to be admired if people want to stand on their own two feet.
Wendy Lively from Hexham, Northumberland
HOW right to call the Meghan and Harry crisis Megxit. Just like Brexit, it has outraged the nation. But how disappointing that the Queen has shown that selfish couple leniency?
It will beggar belief if they are allowed to keep their titles and income yet refrain from royal duties. What a shame the plain-speaking Prince Philip wasn’t allowed the final say. He’d have sent that arrogant pair on their way with their ears ringing.
Terry Armstrong, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear
THERE is no reason why the Sussexes should not lead a more private life and step down — but not at the expense of the country. They should not keep their HRH titles as they have proved they are not royal. Did Meghan Markle join the Royal Family for prestige?
Mavis Sinfield from Whitstable, Kent
MEGHAN should be stripped of her title so she can make her way financially independently. If they still want Frogmore Cottage, she and Harry should sign a lease and pay back the £2.4million the public paid to refurbish it. They have done more damage than any other royals in the last 100 years, so give them the obscurity they crave.
C Duffy from Stoke-on-Trent
Was The Queen right to let them go?
THE QUEEN has missed a golden opportunity to show us how strong she is. She has let Harry and Meghan off the hook and given the despicable couple what they want.
I never had any time for royalty yet I did respect the Queen. She’s blown it big time. Workers are paying tax through the nose to pay scavengers Harry and Meghan.
JK Bate from Bilston, West Mids
I ADMIRE the Queen for trying to keep her family together. Because at the end of the day, behind closed doors, they are a close family.
She has given her blessing so allow the couple to live their life as they please, just as you and I would like to. Respect our Queen’s decision.
Jay Reeves, Caterham, Surrey
HAS our beloved Queen misjudged public feeling again, as she did when Diana died? She got it spectacularly wrong then and had to back-pedal.
Public feeling now is very much that Meghan can’t have what Meghan wants. We appreciate Her Majesty’s “family” is involved but that family needs a public mandate to survive. Harry and Meghan have totally eroded that mandate.
Chris Martin from Rochford, Essex
IT seems to me the Queen has capitulated in the Meghan and Harry crisis because she had no choice. She either kicks them out of the Royal Family, which she would never do, or she compromises and we, the taxpayers, are left to pay the bill — albeit through the Duchy of Cornwall — to indulge the pair’s selfishness.
Ken Pennington from Stalybridge, Cheshire
MAKING this announcement on Kate’s birthday, with the Duke of Edinburgh just out of hospital, and refusing to clear it with Prince Charles or the Queen first makes Harry and Meghan look terrifically selfish.
Marcus Walker from Middlesborough
THE Queen looks tired and sad. She doesn’t need this. Grow up, you two!

I’VE worked for 50 years. Anything I’ve wanted I’ve had to do overtime and save for. Can I have a refund of my share of Frogmore Cottage?
William Ensor from Birmingham
I’M 80 and still have to pay tax on my pension just to keep the ignorant young royals happy if they don’t want to earn their crust. Kick them out. Meghan has caused all this trouble with the Queen.
Bryn from Northants
TO give Harry and Meghan what they want we should stop all the money they get from the Government and The Duchy of Cornwall. If they get any money from these sources it will upset a lot of the Queen’s subjects.
Dave Mashiter from Exeter, Devon
WHY didn’t Harry and Meghan mention these thoughts before a lavish wedding and £2.4million house renovation?!
Bea from Cumbria
How will they do in the future?
HARRY and Meghan won’t need money from the public purse. Fergie has made a fortune living off of her title.
Terry Smith from Gillingham, Kent
HARRY touting Meghan’s voiceover skills is no better than Fergie touting meet-ups with Andrew several years ago to earn a few bob. He and Meghan should renounce everything here — titles, homes and security — and go to Canada as ordinary citizens.
They have enough contacts to make a good living on their own and should leave the hard-working royals to get on with the job that they do so well.
Sue Sutherland from Hull
I AM disgusted at how Harry and Meghan are behaving towards their family. In my opinion it’s all about ego. Meghan waltzed in here expecting to eclipse William and Kate in the public’s eyes but she badly misjudged the whole scenario. She is used to being the centre of attention and had her nose put out of joint as she soon realised she would always come second best, and that doesn’t suit her.
I’m surprised Harry, who has been under scrutiny since birth, is turning against the media. He is obviously being led around by the nose. Let them go to Canada, without any support from the British taxpayer. They are not wanted here.

HOW dare “’woke” leftie liberals claim the Sussexes are being driven out by racism? It’s nonsense and a disgraceful slur on this country. Harry and Meghan were showered with love by the public and Press until they began to whine and Meghan, in particular, realised royal life can be dull and constraining.
Then, to add insult to injury, they failed to give the Queen any notice about stepping back as senior royals. This wonderful woman has devoted every waking minute to the service of this country for 67 years, and to treat her with such disrespect was beyond the pale. It’s an awfully sad state of affairs, for Harry in particular, but racism is not to blame.
Neil Coppendale from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex
Angry at her… sorry for him
WITH what happened to Diana, I understand Harry wanting to step away from the spotlight but I get the feeling Meghan calls the shots. Maybe the Hollywood princess didn’t like the work of a real royal.
With their brand name, they will still have an easy life but with one prince gone, Harry has selfishly put a lot on William’s shoulders.
Matthew Wilson from Wolverhampton
IT was most disingenuous of Meghan Markle not to think that her life would be seismically changed when she married a Prince.
It is obvious that she does not possess the required qualities of allegiance to the crown and should therefore renounce the title of HRH and revert to becoming known as simply Meghan Markle once more. I sincerely hope Prince Harry will one day realise the hurt and damage they have caused to Her Majesty and their once adoring public.
John Burton from Worksop, Notts
ALREADY it has come to light that Harry and Meghan actually intend to live in LA and not Canada at all. How many more lies have we been told? Yet more proof that what the controlling Meghan wants, she gets.
Watch out, Harry. Once she gets all she wants you will be the next person cut out of her life.

HARRY is out of his depth and is being used. I predict that within five years he will be unceremoniously dumped by fame-chasing Meghan.
Roger Stilgoe from Birmingham
IF Harry wants to branch out, what’s the problem? It’s not like he has abdicated.
Patrick from Loughborough

For more than 60 years this country has been multi-racial, as Prince Harry will know from our history. For Meghan’s fans to play the race card when she’s only had a warm welcome since she arrived is just ridiculous.
Whatever the future holds for them many will wish them well, hoping their time in Canada is not funded by the public.
