Two fishermen survived three days in the remote Australian outback fending off crocodiles and drinking Berocca mixed with their own urine after their boat capsized.
The 32-year-old and 33-year-old men were on a fishing trip on the Daly River 100km south of Darwin on Thursday when they struck a submerged object, causing their vessel to sink into the crocodile-infested waters.
As soon as they hit the water, a big crocodile attempted to attack them, forcing the men to throw their belongings at it to keep it away.
‘I’ve been involved in this about 30 years and this is about as horrific as it gets,’ Superintendent Shaun Gill said, adding they were ‘extremely lucky to survive’.

The pair were abandoned ship as the vessel sunk into the river near Clear Creek last Thursday. They were only rescued on Monday.
They were attempting an expedition up the river in the remote outback but instead spent a ‘horrific’ three days struggling to survive.
Police said the area, which is known to be crocodile-infested, was ‘completely inhospitable’ and the extreme weather meant the men were forced into dire circumstances.
‘They had no water to drink to the point where they found bottles on the beach and tried to drink urine, and mix it with Berocca to try and get some taste, the only thing saving their lives,’ Superintendent Gill said.
The pair were miraculously saved after two other fishermen happened to be passing through the area and noticed debris on the side of the river.

‘[My] friend and I were just going for a fish towards the front of the Daly River and we noticed a swag that was washed up on the bank,’ Shane Taylor said.
‘We’d only gone another few Ks and saw the blokes, they were waving and obviously fairly agitated. They were extremely happy to see us.’
They were taken to hospital for treatment, with police reiterating how fortunate they were to be alive.
‘They did everything they could to help themselves,’ Superintendent Gill said.
‘But even with all that, they were extremely lucky to survive.’
