A gunman disguised in a gas mask shot eight commuters on a subway at a station in New York – leaving 16 people injured.
Disturbing footage shows limping and bleeding passengers try to leave the station in Brooklyn after the shooting, with some being helped and propped up by other victims.
One person walks a few feet and collapse on the platform, while smoke pours out of the train.
The gunman, who was wearing a bright orange construction worker's outfit, struck during the morning rush hour at 8:30am when the subway was at 36th Street in Sunset Park.
He threw a smoke bomb into a southbound train and opened fire on commuters as the doors closed, reports The New York Daily News.
Graphic images show the resulting carnage as the gunman's victims sit in pools of blood on the station concourse.
Some people appear to be trying to call for help or tell loved ones that they are safe.
Eight people were shot by the gunman and a further eight people were injured, bringing the total number of victims to 16, CNN reports.
Luckily, there have been no reports of any deaths and some of the injuries occurred when people were trampled in the panic.
The suspect is still at large and described as a black man around 5ft5" tall and weighing around 180lbs.
NYPD said in a statement posted on Twitter: "Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn.
"Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area.
"In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time.
"Any witnesses are asked to call @NYPDTips at #800577TIPS. Please stay clear of the area. More provided information when available."
New York City Fire Department said they have found "several undetonated devices at same location."
