A former star of The Office, Rainn Wilson, said there is anti-Christian bias in Hollywood after episode 8 of The Last Of Us had a Bible-reading character turn into a ‘horrific villain’.
In the episode, main character Ellie comes across a group of survivors led by David (portrayed by Scott Shepherd) a ‘cult-leading cannibal who keeps quoting the Bible’, according to the Daily Wire.
The former The Office star Rainn Wilson wrote about the character on Twitter: ‘I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood.
‘As soon as the David character in “The Last of Us” started reading from the Bible I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain. Could there be a Bible-reading peracher on a show who is actually loving and kind?’
The tweet comes in the middle of the controversy surrounding this year’s Oscars, as many criticised the awards for not being ‘diverse enough’ and the Best Actress winner Jamie Lee Curtis urged the Academy to consider genderless acting categories.

Many Twitter users agreed with Mr Wilsons’s tweet, with one saying that the ‘defamation of Christianity’ had become one of Hollywood’s major ‘unoriginal and tired’ clichés and another adding that making Christians the bad guy in a show was the norm nowadays.

Mr Wilson’s My Super Ex-Girlfriend cast-mate Stelio Savante expressed his agreement with the actor and said he agrees with him ‘wholeheartedly’ and added: ‘But unfortunately, Christophobia and Christophobic sentiment are alive and well in our industry.’
The popular show, based on a video game with the same name, sees Ellie kill David in self-defence after he tried to rape her.
One commenter pointed out that David wasn’t actually a pastor in the video game: ‘As SOON as the pastor started reading from the Bible I knew he was going to be awful. I was like “watch that guy be David the creepy cannibal from the video game.” And then it was David. Shocked. Surprised. Never seen it before. He wasn’t a pastor in the video game.’
The TV-version of David also revealed he was not a Christian, something one Twitter user said was ‘the most interesting thing about this on the show’ from the perspective of a Christian.
Others also criticised naming the character David. Writer Isaac Goodwin said: ‘Hollywood doesn’t know how to portray a genuine Christ follower.
‘Any born again Christian knows David was not a true Christian.’
Mr Wilson’s criticism of the ‘anti-Christian bias in Hollywood’ may come as a surprise to his followers, as he is an outspoken leftist on Twitter tweeting about things like climate change awareness.
Back in November, the 57-year-old changed his name on his social media platforms to ‘Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson’ and explained on Twitter: ‘As the polar caps melt, it drives up the risk throughout the world, including extreme weather events that affect all of us.
‘So as a cheap little stunt to help save Planet Earth, I’ve changed my name on Twitter, Instagram, and even on my fancy writing paper…because I’m an Arctic risk name changer, which is going to be a game changer.
‘Our mission at Arctic Basecamp is to raise awareness of the global risks of Arctic weather change – it’s not just bad news for the Arctic, but for us too.’
‘That’s why I changed my name, and you should too – to help tell the world leaders and influencers that we need to act now.
‘So I’m reaching out to you and lots of folks in show business to change their names.’
