A PET goldfish is back in the swim of things thanks to a £200 life-saving operation to remove a tumour.
Bob’s owners splashed out after noticing the 20- year-old was “giddy” and going backwards — then finding a lump on a fin.
They took him to Toll Barn Veterinary Centre in North Walsham, Norfolk, after hearing they had successfully operated on a constipated goldfish in 2015.
In a 30-minute procedure, Bob was placed on an adapted operating table and drip-feed anaesthetic water.
Staff also rigged up a miniature heart-rate monitor before prising out the lump with magnifying lenses, forceps and scissors.
Bob, whose owners had given him up for dead, has fully recovered.
Dr Faye Bethell said: "The option was to remove the lump or put him to sleep and now he is doing brilliantly.

"His owners were really, really pleased because the goldfish is older than their children and is considered part of the family."
Faye, a director of the centre, added: "It's pretty complicated because everything is so small and goldfish don't have a massive volume of blood so you have to make sure they don't lose too much blood.
"We've done several operations on goldfish but this was the oldest we've operated on.
"We keep them wet throughout using their own tank water so they don't dry out.
"Happily, Bob is back home and enjoying swimming properly.
"The operation took about half an hour and he was returned to his owners the same day."
