Google Maps users spot Russian base ‘filled with tanks ready to invade Ukraine’

Google Maps users were stunned after they found a 2022 satellite image of a Russian military base that was 'full of armoured vehicles' ahead of the Ukraine invasion.

The Reddit user, u/Prunestand posted a screenshot of the Kamensk-Shakhtynsky military deployment area located in Rostov, Oblast – on the border of Ukraine.

Now, the forum user claims it was a harrowing view of the invasion that came on February 24, sparking the Russia-Ukraine War.

The post with over 1.1k upvotes in the subreddit r/UkraineConflict read: "The Kamensk-Shakhtynsky military deployment area as seen on Google Maps (2022).

"The military base is literally full of armoured vehicles ready to deploy into Ukraine."

Google Maps fans flooded the comments with fascination over the post claiming that Vladimir Putin had strategically planned his attack for years.

One user said: "This is literally 1 hour inside the border. Blow that site, then trash the A-260 highway."

Another wrote: "I think we’ve learned by now that “ready” might not be quite the correct word."

A third added: "This image was taken on March 31, 2021. Check the Google Earth timeline. Images taken in November 2021 show most of the tanks (250) are gone, but the support vehicles remain. I bet most of this equipment is already blown to bits in Ukraine or a good portion of it."

However, the original poster replied: "Google Maps tells me that the satellite data is from 2022."

The Daily Star checked the satellite information on the Google Maps app and it dates the image as 2022.

But some past reports claim that the accumulation of weapons in this area could have started as far back as 2015 as an Inform Napalm report that year claims witnesses saw mass arrivals of Russian trains with weapons and equipment in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky in Rostov Oblast.
