His final school report called him a “lovely” boy who had made a “super start” to life at school – and had started to excel in sport.
Staff at his school, Hearsall Community Academy said: "I wish you so much luck next year and know that you will flourish and allow more of you to be shown to the world."
The tribute comes after The Sun revealed that the child’s gran has been detained and sectioned following his death.
Grandmother Anghel was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, but officers confirmed that she had been sectioned after being questioned.
Mario was found with a fatal stab wound at his home – where he was allegedly being looked after by Anghel.
A close pal of the family said: "The mother was at work when it happened, and her husband was, too. The grandmother was the last person to see the boy alive.
"No one can understand how she came to have a knife in her hand. We just don't know why.
"When I met her, she was always OK. She didn't ever present any signs of a mental illness."
