A man opened fire at a board meeting for residents of apartments in northern Rome today, killing three people and injuring others.
Gunman Claudio Campiti, 57, was heard shouting ‘I’ll kill you all’ before opening fire in the outdoor seating area of the Il Posto Giusto cafe.
The assailant was known to the members of the association, was a consortium member and reportedly lived in one of the apartments.
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri called an emergency security meeting for after what he called ‘the grave episode of violence that has struck our city’.
In a tweet, he confirmed three people were killed in the shooting at a coffee shop in the working-class neighbourhood of Fidene.

The armed man, 57, was already known to the apartments board who were meeting in the cafe
Speaking in a video interview, witness Luciana Ciorba said the man was known to board members and had been previously reported to authorities for making threats against local residents.
The residents’ board was gathered for an end-of-year meeting when an argument broke out between Campiti, now in custody, and three women attending the meeting.
An eyewitness told Italian media outlet La Repubblica, ‘He fired at the board of directors of the consortium.
‘The weapon jammed at one point and was blocked by some consortium members who also unlocked the door.
‘I saved myself because I got under the table and managed to get out of the room on all fours.’
