Harry and Meghan shared private Lilibet details to avoid Archie ‘drama’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave details about Lilibet’s birth so as to avoid the “drama” and the guessing games that took place when Archie was born, commentators suggested on the Royally Us podcast.

Following the birth of Lilibet, a statement was made by the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation giving a brief rundown of the birth.

It included saying the baby was “healthy and well” as well as where she was born –Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, in California.

But that was in stark difference to Archie's birth on May 6, 2019.

The media was informed in the afternoon that Meghan had gone into labour in the early hours of the morning, then shortly later another statement said she had given birth at 5.26am.

At the same time Harry and Meghan chose not to give details themselves.

“We actually have the details of where the birth took place this time around,” Molly Mulshine told the Royally Us podcast.

“We didn’t have that last time with Archie. It took a few months for that to come out. Now we know it was Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.”

For Molly it was nice for royal fans to know more about the birth.

She continued: “Which is adorable, like the hospital itself is so pretty. It’s interesting to know a little bit more this time around.”

Joe Drake felt the United States element played a part in this.

“I wonder if that’s because they’re on American soil. Here in America we can sort of get that news,” he said. "But before, when Archie was born, it was a little bit of a different story."

Ms Mulshine said: "I think we'll never really know why it's so different. It seems that there was so much contention around it last time."

She continued: "Maybe they just didn't want to deal with the drama this time of everyone complaining that they don't know the details. So just get it out, which is totally so smart."

The Archewell Foundation website statement read at th etime: "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

"She weighed 7lbs 11oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

"This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
