Haunting last text sent from woman to boyfriend before she went missing – as devastated friends plead for information

A WOMAN who went missing 14 years ago insisted she was "all fine darling" in a haunting last text to her boyfriend moments before she vanished.

Elena Zhagorova, then 38, disappeared after travelling to pick up her passport in London.

The Latvian-born woman, known as Elena or Alyona to pals, was last spotted at Highgate station in the north of the capital on May 21, 2008.

She was due to return to her partner later that day but never came home, MyLondon reported.

In a desperate plea for answers at the time, her friends told the Missing People website "we are here for you whenever you are ready".

They added: "We can listen, talk you through what help you need, pass a message for you and help you to be safe."

On the day before she went missing, Elena had reportedly gone along to a doctor's appointment with her partner – it didn't go well.

The next morning, she texted her partner to say "All fine darling – look out for new things – love A. xx".

It would be the last message sent from her phone.

That day, she had travelled from her home in Tottenham into central London to collect her passport.

But after arriving she was told it wasn't ready and to come back in three hours, so she decided to go for a walk in Hyde Park.

It was on this walk that a friend rang her and invited her around for dinner later that evening – she considered the offer.

Elena, without her passport, then took a Tube back to Highgate station, arriving at approximately 1.30pm.

Police said she last checked her phone at 4:30pm near her doctor's surgery and near an allotment that she shared with her flatmates.

She would not reply to any further messages after her partner became concerned.

Elena never returned home that night and police scrambled to her flat in Tottenham the next day after the alarm was raised.

Described as being 5ft 5inches tall with shoulder-length, fair hair, Elena was proficient in English.

She had been working in the UK for 17 years since 1991 before she vanished.

In a letter posted to the website Missing Madeleine, a pal told how the Latvian had recently returned to work at the beginning of May 2008 following a serious bout of depression.

But this return to the office triggered a relapse of her depression and the 38-year-old spiralled.

An investigation was launched following her disappearence and searches were undertaken of nearby woods and lakes.

But despite public appeals for information on her whereabouts as well as an open letter published online desperately appealing for information – the trail went cold.
