Former USWNT goalkeeper Hope Solo was reportedly arrested on Thursday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor child abuse.
According to TMZ, Solo was arrested in a Walmart parking lot with two young children in the car with her. Solo has 2-year-old twins with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, but it's not known if it was her children in the car with her at the time. Following her arrest, she was reportedly processed at Forsyth County Jail.
A statement from Solo's lawyer, Rich Nichols, was posted on her Twitter account Friday afternoon.

"On the advice of counsel, Hope can't speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and she looks forward to opportunity to defend these charges."
This is not Solo's first run-in with the law. In 2014 she was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault against two family members. While the charges were initially dropped in 2015, prosecutors had them reinstated, and they weren't fully dropped until 2018 when both witnesses refused to testify. Solo claimed that she had been defending herself against an attack from her nephew.
Solo, 40, has won two Olympic gold medals with the USWNT, and was on the team that won the Women's World Cup in 2015.
