The husband of a California mom who vanished before a trip for her daughter’s birthday is now considered a person of interest in her disappearance — and the case is being handled as a criminal investigation, according to new court documents.

Investigators began eyeing Larry Millete in the Jan. 7 disappearance of his wife, Maya Millete, from their Chula Vista home after he stopped cooperating with authorities, according to court documents obtained by CBS8.

The documents describe Maya’s disappearance as a “criminal investigation,” the outlet reported.

Maya disappeared just days before the family was set to go away for her daughter’s 11th birthday, authorities said.

Her husband speculated that the mother of three left the home to get some alone time.

He cooperated initially with police but stopped about a month into the investigation and refrained from joining the search parties or public vigils held in honor of his wife.

The court documents unsealed Monday were part of a restraining order filed by police to prevent him from possessing or buying guns.

In response to the gun restraining order, Larry insisted that he “poses no threat.”

“I am a law abiding American citizen who [believes] in our 2nd amendment rights,” he told Fox5 San Diego.
