A GRANDMOTHER found £28,000 in a second-hand sofa she bought online – but what she decided to do with the cash divided opinion.
Vicky Umodu, from Colton, California, discovered the wads of cash tucked inside a cushion after finding the sofas during a hunt for furniture to fill her new home.
She told ABC7: "I scrolled down and saw free items.
"So, I clicked on it, and the first thing I came up with was this family that wanted to give a sofa, and everything in their bedroom set.
"I said maybe it's a gimmick, so I called them."
The Craigslist sellers were giving away the two sofas and a chair for free after clearing out the house of a loved one who had recently passed away – but they were unaware of the concealed cargo of cash.

Vicky said: "I just moved in, and I don't have anything in my house.
"I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in."
Not long after she brought the set of sofas back to her house, she noticed something strange inside one of the cushions.
At first, Vicky thought it was a heat pad.

But when she unzipped the cushion, she found a stash of large envelopes stuffed with thousands of pounds of cash.
Vicky said: "I was just telling my son, come, come, come! I was screaming, this is money! I need to call the guy."
Without a second thought, she decided to return all the money to the family.
"God has been kind to me and my children, they're all alive and well," she said.
"I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?"
In a kind gesture, the family gifted Vicky £2,000 to buy a new fridge.
"I was not expecting a dime from him, I was not," she said.
But Vicky's decision to return the money divided opinion online.
Some said she should have kept the cash, while others agreed she did the right thing.
One said: "Definitely did the right thing.
"My late mother in law had dementia and hid money all over the house – about £13k in total.
"It’s sad to read that some people would have kept it or think about keeping it."
Another wrote: "What a lovely honest lady."
But a third said: "Should have kept it quiet, that family should be ashamed only giving her £2,000."
And another asked: "Why did she have to tell anyone?"

The family said they had found other quantities of cash tucked away throughout the rest of the house – but only a few hundred pounds.
They were unsure why their relative had hidden so much money in and around the house.
