I married my brother’s ‘killer’ after writing to him in prison to say I forgave him

A WOMAN has married a convict who was found guilty of killing her brother – years after she appeared to forgive him in a letter that she had sent while he was behind bars.

John Tiedjen, 57, had served 32 years in jail after he was sentenced following the death of Brian McGary in June 1989.

He was released from jail on bond as he is awaiting a retrial after his legal team submitted previously unseen photos and police reports.

Crystal Straus married Tiedjen at his home in Cleveland, Ohio at the weekend.

She told WKRC: “I love him, obviously. If I didn’t love him I would not be sitting here with him.”

Tiedjen told News5 that he loves Crystal with "all his heart"

He proposed to Crystal on New Years Eve last year as the pair feared he wouldn't be released from jail.

The wedding came years after Crystal reportedly wrote a letter to John, appearing to offer her forgiveness.

Tiedjen said: “I wrote her a letter back and said ‘I didn’t do it. Take a look at this stuff.

“I believe in God too, and I know things about it, but I didn’t do it.”

The couple reportedly danced to Neil Diamond’s “Forever in Blue Jeans” while Crystal's face was covered in cake.

It’s reported that Crystal first wrote to John while she was making a trip to Lake Erie in 2016 but she didn't know why she had sent the letter.

But, the two stayed in contact, The Washington Post reports.

She said: “We both had something in common, the loss of Brian. We started talking and it just sparked.”

Brian was Crystal's half-brother and was also Tiedjen's stepbrother.

Cops found Brian dead when he was 18 as they reportedly discovered a stab wound to his chest and a bullet hole that was lodged between his eyes.

Detectives reportedly found Brian's blood on the barrel of the gun and bullets in Tiedjen's pockets.

Prosecutors claimed that Tiedjen’s fingerprints were found on the gun as he was sentenced to life.

Tiedjen remains on house arrest and an initial hearing in his re-trial effort will take place on August 31.
