EXCLUSIVE: My nightmare move to London has gone from bad to worse… we’re now being forced to take showers in the GARDEN
- Stella Radeva moved to Turnpike Lane in London from Glasgow in a dream move
- But months in her kitchen ceiling collapsed and her shower is dismantled
A woman’s move to London turned into a nightmare after her ceiling collapsed and she was forced to take showers using her garden hose.
Journalist Stella Radeva thought her dreams were coming true when she moved to the capital from Glasgow and bagged a well-priced house near Turnpike Lane station.
But last week, just a few months into living at her new home, the kitchen ceiling collapsed – and her morning coffee was filled with pieces of fallen plaster.
Stella and her housemate could see the upstairs bedroom floor through the hole before the ceiling began to ‘split apart’ until it detached completely.
Her landlord’s initial response was merely that he’d sent a message to the building company – but it took five whole days until a contractor arrived at 9am on Monday.
Now, Stella has revealed that the situation taken a turn for the worse as the bathroom was left in a state of ‘bombardment’ and she was informed a ‘complete overhaul’ was needed.
As a result, they were ‘left with no choice’ but to create a ‘makeshift bathing area’ in the garden – using a hose hanging from a tree.

The contractors then left without any indication of when they would return – while communication with her landlord has, once again, remained elusive.
Stella said: ‘Fresh off a night shift, it took me a moment to grasp the situation, only to find the entire shower dismantled.

‘The bathroom walls look damp and mould-ridden, mirroring the condition of our kitchen ceiling that recently gave way.
‘The scene resembles the aftermath of some kind of bathroom bombardment, with the issue clearly being there months or even years before we had actually moved in.
‘The contractors have informed us that a complete overhaul is necessary, including replacing the tiles.’
However, Stella remained positive about the dismal situation, adding that the ‘avant-garde solution’ has at least killed two birds with one stone and means her plants are receiving plenty of water.
She continued: ‘With our shower now officially MIA and kitchen being in the exact same state as almost a week ago – an abyss pointing through the second floor of the house – we’ve been left with no choice but to turn our garden into a makeshift bathing area.
‘We’re desperately trying to hold onto some semblance of normalcy, we’re crossing our fingers for good weather in the upcoming days.’

Stella heard a loud banging noise seemingly coming from the first floor. She rushed downstairs and there it was – the kitchen ceiling was all over the place
It fell right next to the stove and the spot where Stella had just made her coffee. Debris can be seen on top of the dishwasher
Describing the initial ceiling collapse last week, she said: ‘We saw water trickling down from the enormous gap, probably from the bathroom which happens to be more or less above the gap, and the ceiling was continuously splitting apart, with one portion suspended in midair until it eventually detached and fell entirely.
‘We peeked through the hole in the ceiling and could practically see the upstairs bedroom floor among the wires that were also coming through.
‘So now, our kitchen looks like a war zone, wrecked and unsafe, with a whiff of mouldiness in the air that’s hard to ignore.’
Alongside falling plaster and mould, junk fell from the ceiling including cement bottles and silicone sealants dating back from 2008 – giving the air that the property has been in desperate need of renovation for years.
One contractor admitted they had worked on the shower approximately eight months back, and even back then, things weren’t exactly looking stellar.
After the ceiling collapsed, Stella and her housemate remembered they had reported a leak issue a couple of months ago – but the water company claimed it hadn’t been on their radar for years.
They were then subsequently issued with an astonishing water bill, with the water company adding they believed the household would ‘have to claim filling up a pool every day’ to justify the amount of water used.
Stella asked: ‘All of this begs the question: did anyone bother inspecting this place before shoving us in?’

Some seriously weird junk fell out of that hole – stuff like cement bottles and silicone sealants dating from 2008 that looked like they’d been part of the ceiling’s secret stash for ages
A sealant was another gem that fell from the hole. Stella said cooking’s off the table, showers are a distant dream, and even a bathroom visit feels like a precarious endeavour
After a series of emails between the landlord and the building company, the cavalry finally showed up
