I went from bankrupt caravan park boss who had to borrow £12 to buy KFC for my kids to £2BN property tycoon after spotting niche in market

  • Tycoon Robert Bull is now number 88 on UK Rich List and is worth £2billion

A bungalow builder who at one stage went bankrupt owing £3.5million is now worth £2billion after spotting a simple business opportunity.

Property tycoon Robert Bull, who is now number 88 on the UK Rich List, started out by running the country’s second biggest caravan park business alongside a partner.

However, in 2016 the company ran into trouble and he said he spiralled into a nasty depression which meant he was unable to work for three months.

After this period of time, the 46-year-old spotted a gaping hole in the housing market and had the idea of turning caravan parks into bungalow villages for people who wanted to sell their homes and downsize.

Today, Bob’s company is now worth £4billion and employs 2,000 workers and he lives in a stunning £10million mansion in Southampton with his fiancée, which has a three-lane bowling alley.

The house also has six garages, storing a collection of 12 supercars, including five Rolls Royce’s, two Lamborghini’s and a Ferrari.

At one stage, the rags to riches businessman said he had such money struggles that he could not afford the price of a takeaway for his children seven years ago.

‘I put my card in and it didn’t work. The next card didn’t work either,’ he told The Sun.

‘I was pushing my youngest, Jack, in the pram. I put my food back and I said to my son Bobby, ‘Have you got any money?’

‘I had to borrow the price of a KFC from my 12-year-old so my kids could have something to eat.

‘I still get emotional about it now. The woman in the bank cut my cards up in front of me. I felt like a piece of s**t. That was my lowest day, and I hated it.’

With Mr Bull’s new venture, he bought people’s old homes at market value and sold them a factory-prefabricated bungalow in a new community, each with a drive, a garden and a shed.

In this transaction there were no fees and buyers keep the equity from their house sale.
