I'm a mum-of-seven and our bank account has been frozen days before Christmas after my partner died of Covid

A HEARTBROKEN mum-of-seven who lost her husband to Covid has seen their bank account frozen days before Christmas.

Martin Mulcahy, from Nuneaton in Warwickshire, died aged 50 this month, having been in hospital since mid-November after contracting coronavirus.

His family are now facing their worst nightmare in the run-up to Christmas – after his bank accounts were frozen leaving them without an income.

Wife Tracy has been left taking care of their seven children – aged between nine and 25 – of which three are autistic with additional needs.

Security guard Martin was unvaccinated at the time of his death, having "put off" his jab for months because he "hadn't got round to it".

Martin was rushed to hospital and put on a ventilator but, as his oxygen levels dipped, he tragically died on December 5.

Tracey – who claims she "didn't believe in the vaccine at first" has now booked herself in for her first jab, she told MailOnline.

She said: "As a family we are heartbroken. He was the best father to our seven children and the most caring man on the planet.

"I still haven't processed what's happened and I keep expecting him to walk through the door any minute. It feels like a nightmare that won't end."

Martin will have his funeral on Thursday, December 23, just two days before Christmas.

Since his death, the dad-of-seven's bank account has been frozen leaving the family without the income they need.

Once banks are notified of a death, any accounts in the deceased's name will be frozen.

Banks must legally freeze accounts of the deceased when they receive notice of their passing, to stop any funds from leaving the account illegally.

While it is illegal to take money from a bank account belonging to someone who has died, banks will allow for funds to be released to pay for funeral expenses.

The executor who handles the estate will be able to apply for a probate to release the accounts to the next of kin, however, this process can take weeks.

Tracy's sister Debbie Lea said they are devastated and stressed in the run-up to Christmas.

She said: "The funeral will take place just two days before Christmas Day and the family are, as you would expect, absolutely devastated."

Debbie and the family have started a GoFundMe page that has been set up to help Tracy buy gifts for her children and support them through the grieving period.

Debbie said it's been designed to help give them "the Christmas they deserve".

She said: "My aim is to try and help ease some of the burden and raise enough funds to help buy presents for each of the children and to enable them to have a Christmas they so very much deserve.

"These really are such tragic circumstances. I just want to be able to put a smile back on these children’s faces this Christmas."

'ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED'

The GoFundMe page's initial target was £500 but has since reached over £3,000.

"All donations, no matter how big or small, would be very much appreciated," Debbie added.

She also provided an update after one of the children was reportedly missing last week.

She wrote: "As many of you are already aware, the 16-year-old child who went missing late Tuesday evening and into the early hours of the morning is a member of this family.

"She is a vulnerable child who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her dad. Thankfully she was found safe and sound several miles away a few hours later.

"All praise goes to the police and friends and family who joined in the search.

"Finally I would like to thank all the lovely people of Nuneaton (and beyond) who have already donated to this worthy cause.

"You really have surpassed our expectations and we can’t thank you enough!"
