I'm furious after a water park didn't refund my £72 ticket after my son got sick and couldn't go – it's not fair

A MUM has been left outraged after a popular waterpark refused to move a booking she made for her son's birthday after he fell ill and could not go.

Emie Di Marino spent £72 booking tickets online for the Alpamare park in Scarborough for son Tyler Stringer's 10th birthday.

The mum, 30, hoped the day would be extra special because poorly Tyler has been in and out of hospital all year.

But disaster struck after her lad fell ill with a stomach virus the night before his big day, forcing his mum to ask the park to move the date.

But to her horror, Emie, from North Yorkshire, was flatly told there was no chance of moving the date, and she wouldn't get a refund either.

Emie, from the small village of Lealholm, near Whitby, said: "They wouldn't even offer him a voucher. Nothing.

"How any business could be so cold hearted to treat a child that's been in hospital, and on his birthday, is just absolutely unbelievable."

Emie said Tyler was left "very upset" to have missed out as his other pals were able to go along anyway, for what was a "very expensive swimming trip".

Tyler has been going to Sheffield Children's Hospital since he was two for various medical conditions including a form of colitis which has left him with 'awful' symptoms, said Emie.

His last admission for endoscopies and colonoscopies was in March this year and, she says, a stomach virus can be a totally different ball game for someone with a bowel condition.

The mum, who works as a managing director at a construction company, said Alpamare told her "they don't offer refunds or change bookings".

Despite what the park claimed, Emie has since discovered another family in a similar situation managed to have their booking changed.

She explained: "I had gone onto Google reviews to write a review over our really poor experience, and actually noticed that someone one else on the same day as our booking had gone through exactly the same situation as us.

"However, unlike us, Alpamare had offered to change their booking."

Emie was left "absolutely outraged" by the cheek of the park and rang them up to confront them.

I wasn't even bothered about the money

She was told management would get back to her but she hasn't heard a peep.

The fuming mum now plans to contact Trading Standards officers to see if they can help her.

Emie admits she "wasn't even bothered about the money" but is appalled the park was not even prepared to move the booking to a later date.

Alpamare, on Burniston Road -which boasts slides, a wave pool, a spa and sauna – is a popular visitor attraction in Scarborough.

On its website it says admission tickets are valid for the day they are bought and are not transferrable.

It adds: "Once bought tickets are not cancellable or returnable and no refund or reimbursement will be given for tickets not fully used.
