I'm furious after council fined me £1k over dog poo in my garden from 2 YEARS ago | The Sun

A GRANDMA has slammed a jobsworth council after they fined her £1,000 for failing to remove dog poo from her own garden – despite it happening over two YEARS ago.

Alison Dawson, who suffers from anxiety and depression, claims she only found out she'd been penalised after being shamed on Facebook by Durham County Council last week.

The 48-year-old, who has two Staffies at her home in South Moor, County Durham, had however been sent notices from the council, including a Community Protection Notice (CPN).

But she ignored numerous letters to remove the waste from her yard – and was summoned to court.

A post on the Durham County Council wardens page read : "A female from South Moor has been prosecuted for failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice (CPN)…

"hich required her to remove waste and dog faeces from her yard.

"Alison Dawson of Mitchell Street, South Moor ignored notices to remove waste from the yard of her property and now has to pay a total of £1038 in fines and costs."

Alison, who lives with her daughter, now doesn't leave the house after being trolled for not cleaning up the waste which she says she didn't do because she had Covid.

Speaking about the ordeal, she told The Sun: "I had lost my best friend and I was really going through a bad time.

"The dogs come and go as they please because I sit upstairs a lot of the time."

She claimed: "The whole incident happened two years ago but I only received the letter for the fine earlier this week."

Social media descended into a toxic storm over the post, with one user slamming: "Disgusting. It looks like the garden hasn't been washed in a while from all the green growing from it."

Another added: "Dear me. I've got five dogs and it's never scruffy or dirty. I feel sorry for the poor dog."

The two dogs, six-year-old sisters Poppy and Lola, came into Alison's care after her eldest daughter bought them for her son who has downs syndrome.

Alison said: "My friend did a lot for me and when I lost him I became suicidal.

"All of this has knocked me back and I've not slept properly for the past few days.

"Seeing those comments has made me feel far worse."

Alison also expressed her devastation at having pictures of her yard – which show big piles of dog poo mounded up in the garden – plastered all over social media.

But she claimed: "It's the moss and the nettles which make it look bad, not the poo.
