Inside Kate Middleton's covid quarantine from baking and watching Wimbledon to using private gym in 20 room house

FOR most of us, spending 10 days trapped in our homes, staring at the same walls every day, could well leave us stir crazy.

But self-isolating when you're a member of the Royal family is a rather different experience.

Today, it was revealed Kate Middleton has come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and has been forced into self-isolation.

In a statement, Kensington Palace said: "Last week The Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

"Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home".

Kate has reportedly tested negative four times in the past week and has received both her vaccinations.

All the same, Kate, like the rest of us, must abide by the rules.

So what will the next few days look like for the mum-of-three? Here, insiders reveal how she'll be spending her time.

Locked away in luxury

It might be called Apartment 1A, but at four storeys high and boasting 20 rooms, this Royal residence is far from poky.

William and Kate made it their London residence in 2013 and spent £4.5 million on refurbishing Princess Margaret's former home, plus another £170,000 of their own money on a second family kitchen.

Royal author Christopher Warwick said: "It has 20 rooms from the basement to the attic, it is not a small house."

Royal expert Ingrid Seward said: "It is enormous."

There, they also have their household staff, ensuring Kate won't need for anything during her isolation.

After they were married and were stationed on Anglesey, north Wales, Kate and William managed without staff.

But in 2012, a year after the wedding, they advertised a host of jobs for their London base, including a housekeeper, butler and dresser.

Wimbledon and baking

A huge tennis fan and patron of the Lawn Tennis Association, Kate will no doubt be gutted she won't be able to return to Wimbledon again in person.

Kate was told to isolate on Friday after she had spent the afternoon at SW19.

But, as any armchair fan knows, if there's ever a week when you would be happy to stay at home and watch telly, this is it.

A Royal source told us: "Kate loves tennis. She really enjoys going to Wimbledon so it will be a blow that she can't go back again this year.

"She will be following it on the TV like the rest of us."

Her self-isolation also means she won't be able to cheer England on at Wembley in their Euros semi-finals match on Wednesday.

Kate also loves baking.

During the first lockdown, when they were holed up at Anmer Hall, in Norfolk, William revealed their kitchen was an "explosion of flour and chocolate."

Kate previously told former Bake Off judge Mary Berry that one of Louis' first words was "Mary."

She explained: "Right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen bookshelf and children are really fascinated by faces, and your faces are all over your cooking books and he would say 'That's Mary Berry'."

The boxsets she could binge watch

Should Kate fancy a day on the sofa, here are some boxsets and films she might like to binge.

The Crown – Netflix drama spanning Queen Elizabeth II's time on the throne, with some dramatic license

The Royal Tenenbaums – An eccentric and estranged family work on reconciling

Motherland – Laugh-out-loud take on the realities of the school run

Succession – What happens when the head of a dynasty begins to step back from duties and the rest of the family has to step up

The King's Speech – A reluctant King begins his reign after his brother abandons the Royal family over his love for an American woman

So Kate could well be making use of extra her time at home – and that second kitchen – by whipping up some treats for George, Charlotte and Louis.

She also likes to make Prince William's favourite chocolate biscuit cake, which he requested as for their wedding 10 years ago.

And of course, speaking of the children, like any working mum, Kate will still have her hands full when they return from school and nursery. As a senior Royal with a full schedule, she will probably appreciate having some extra time to devote to them.

Our insider said: "Kate is a real family person. She loves spending time with her children, especially getting out in the outdoors and she has talked a lot about the benefits of that for young children.

"She won't be able to go out but she will enjoy doing things at home with them, like baking and painting. As a keen photographer, she's likely to use the time to take some more beautiful pictures of her children."

Behind-the-scenes work

Kate recently launched her big project, The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

Ten years' in the making, the centre will push for increased awareness of and new research into the impact of the early years.

Kate has a beautiful desk at home, topped with cloth-bound Penguin classic books, where she carries out her work.

Our source said: "This is Kate's big project and there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes. It is something she feels very passionate about and is very involved in."

Keeping in shape

While the rest of us have to forego the gym and even a jog around the block when we're isolating, fitness fan Kate has a private gym at her disposal.

According to Marie Claire magazine, Kate uses a swiss ball to firm her abs, along with three different types of plank in her workouts.

She is also said to be a fan of yoga, as well as cycling and rowing.

With so much at her disposal, the working mum isn't in danger of getting bored during her isolation.
