Internet is hit by problems as ITV, Skybet, British Airways and Barclays customers report online outages
Customers of some of the biggest brands in the country have reported problems with their websites.
Amazon, ITV, British Airways, Barclays and Skybet were among the pages that appeared to go down.
Sainsbury’s Bank, the Bank of Scotland, McDonald’s, Premiere Inn and John Lewis were the other big names to be hit.
Downdetector reported problems on a range of websites from just after 5pm in London.
It has found tens of thousands of issues with websites based in the capital but is believed to be affecting customers across the country.
Livid gamers took to social media to rage that they could no longer connect to the PlayStation Network.
Banks’ websites have also gone down for a number of customers, including HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds Bank, Halifax, TSB, Tesco Bank, and the Bank of Scotland.
Argos and John Lewis are among the retail stores to have also been hit but some users say they are back online.
A back-end service like Amazon Web Services, or a Content Delivery Network (CDN), may have failed, the Sun reports.
