Scaredy cat? Jacksonville Jaguars mascot is left dangling above the field after his wires tangle on a botched bungee jump
- Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville had a botched bungee jump Sunday
- In recent years, the veteran performer has dazzled spectators at Jacksonville’s TIAA Bank Field by doing a backflip off a stadium light fixture before games
- Jaxson de Ville is tied to a bungee cord, which is fastened to a zip line, typically allowing him to glide gracefully down to midfield before the opening kickoff
- On Sunday, though, the mascot’s wires became tangled, which prevented him from descending onto the field. Instead he detached into the upper level crowd
- Jaxson de Ville, an anthropomorphic yellow Jaguar, was not harmed in the stunt
Beleaguered Jacksonville Jaguars fans were given a rare moment of relief before the team’s eight loss of the season on Sunday when mascot Jaxson de Ville survived a botched stunt unharmed.
In recent years, the veteran performer has dazzled spectators at Jacksonville’s TIAA Bank Field by doing a backflip off a stadium light fixture while tied to a bungee cord that’s fastened to a zip line, allowing him to glide gently down to midfield before opening kickoffs.
On Sunday, however, Jaxson de Ville’s bungee cord became tangled with other wires, which prevented his zip line from working properly. So instead of gliding gently down to midfield, the mascot instead dangled over the stands before descending into the upper deck, where he safely detached from his bungee cord.

The anthropomorphic yellow Jaguar did not break character during the harrowing ordeal or after landing safely on his feet.
Instead, he stood for a round of applause after avoiding a near catastrophe.
Jaxson de Ville has performed the stunt regularly in both Jacksonville and London, where the team has occasionally played in recent years.
Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, their team didn’t offer them much to cheer about afterwards. Jacksonville fell, 21-14, to the visiting Atlanta Falcons to fall to 2-8 on the season.

It’s not the first time Jaxson de Ville has stolen the spotlight from Jaguars players.
In 2014, while playing Pittsburgh, the mascot held up a towel reading ‘towels carry ebola,’ which was meant to poke fun at Steelers fans who famously wave golden towels during games.
Jaguars President Mark Lamping apologized in a statement.
‘Improvisation and humor have both been key elements to the character of Jaxson DeVille, especially when he performs at home games,’ Lamping said. ‘On Sunday, the person who has played Jaxson DeVille over the past 20 seasons made an extremely poor decision in that regard.
‘The team was unaware of this inappropriate sign, which was hand-made by Jaxson during the fourth quarter of yesterday’s game, until after it had been displayed.’
