The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service this week on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child, authorities announced Friday.
Sheriff’s officials allege that Chad Miller, 45, “continually engaged in detailed sexual communications with someone he believed was a juvenile” during an investigation starting in August 2021.
Miller started communicating with a member of the investigation unit who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. Miller is accused of expressing a desire to have sex with the girl before he stopped communicating, prior to setting a date to meet.
In March, sheriff’s investigators say Miller again communicated with an officer posing as a 13-year-old girl, during which Miller stated his occupation as a postmaster. Miller is accused of detailing sexual acts he wanted to do with the juvenile and asking for “live” photos to verify the juvenile was real, according to the sheriff’s office.
Miller was arrested Thursday by sheriff’s investigators at the post office in Elizabeth.
He was arrested on two counts of internet sexual exploitation of a child and sexual exploitation of a child, all felony charges.
A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service did not have an immediate comment on the arrest.
