RETIRED Bay Area weatherman Joel Bartlett has died at the age of 81, his former news station has announced.
Bartlett spent three decades as a weatherman for ABC7 in the Bay Area.
In a tribute on their website, the station wrote: "Joel Bartlett died Thursday night at his home in Santa Rosa.
"He was surrounded by family and the animals he loved."
Prior to joining the news team at the station, Bartlett was in the Air Force in the 1960s.
It was during this time he became a meteorologist, ABC7 said.

He worked at KPIX, the San Francisco affiliate news station for CBS News, for 14 years.
He then worked for ABC7, in the Bay Area and San Francisco, for 17 years, according to the station. Bartlett retired in 2006.
During his retirement, Bartlett spent time working with charities in the North Bay Area.
The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, declared that March 30, 2022 was Joel Bartlett Day in the city.

Former colleagues of Bartlett and other reporters took to social media to express their thoughts about the former meteorologist.
His successor as weatherman on ABC7, Mike Nicco, wrote: "We did our best to honor him. What is your favorite Joel Bartlett moment? We miss you Joel."
