With Prince Harry set to attend King Charles’ Coronation solo, it’s likely he will be keen to rely on a number of royal family members in order to keep him company.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, will attend the service in London next month alone, with Meghan Markle remaining in California with their children Archie and Lilibet, Buckingham Palace confirmed today.

It’s a far-cry from the norm from the couple, who have almost always attended royal events side-by-side –  including the Queen’s Jubilee in June and her funeral in September.

But despite the challenging family relations, there are a number of royals who remain on friendly terms with the Duke, and whom he will likely lean upon during the upcoming event.

While Harry may find himself flying solo at the event, it also appears unlikely he will see any of his former close friends in the UK.

Meghan Markle is an ‘inspiration’ for refusing to attend the coronation because she has the ‘self-worth’ to ‘say no to the most powerful family in Britain’, a leading feminist academic and Team Sussex supporter claimed today.

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu told Good Morning Britain that the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to stay in California next month is what ‘any wife who has bad in-laws’ should do.

She also insisted that Meghan has refused to go to ‘draw a line in the sand’ with Harry’s family – and control what royal events she attends – not because she might receive a negative reaction from the British people.

Prince Harry will attend his father’s Coronation alone, with Meghan set to remain in California, it was revealed yesterday.

After delicate negotiations, described to the Mail as a game of ‘transatlantic ping pong’, Buckingham Palace announced the Duke of Sussex will be at the Coronation ceremony.

But he will be coming alone, with the Duchess of Sussex due to stay at home with Prince Archie – who turns four that day – and Princess Lilibet, one.

King Charles has been Britain’s monarch since 2022, when his beloved mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away at Balmoral on 8 September at the age of 96 – ending her 70-year reign.

With plans well under way, Buckingham Palace has announced further details on the ceremonial, celebratory and community events that will take place over the Coronation weekend.

Charles ascended to the throne immediately following the death of Her Majesty, but his coronation will not be until Saturday, 6 May, 2023.

Security measures for the King’s coronation will be assessed on a ‘case-by-case basis’, policing minister Chris Philp said when asked about the potential cost in light of the Duke of Sussex’s decision to attend.

Asked about whether there would be a significant additional cost due to the duke’s attendance, Mr Philp said: ‘I’m not going to get into people’s individual protection arrangements, but by the way we’re providing protection for hundreds of foreign heads of state, overseas heads of state who are attending as well.’
