Larry Nassar 'stabbed in back and chest' in Florida prison as disgraced ex-USA Gymnastics doctor serves life sentence | The Sun

CONVICTED serial child molester Larry Nassar has been stabbed multiple times in his back and chest while behind bars.

The former US women's national gymnastics team doctor was stabbed during an altercation while in a Florida federal prison.

Nassar's attack by a fellow inmate took place on Sunday at United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida, 45 miles northwest of Orlando, sources told the Associated Press.

One source said Nassar was stabbed in the back and the chest.

He is in stable condition as of Monday, the outlet reports.

Nassar, reportedly victimized over 250 female athletes, going back decades.

He admitted to sexually assaulting athletes during his employment at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics.

Nassar started working as an athletic trainer for USA Gymnastics in 1986 and then later took on a team physician job at MSU in 1997.

He was fired from MSU in September 2016 and two months later charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County, Michigan.

Nassar also pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in a separate case, which he was indicted for in December 2016.

One year later, eighteen victims filed a federal lawsuit against Nassar, MSU, USA Gymnastics, and the Twistars USA Gymnastics Club.

The suit alleged that Nassar was guilty of sexual assault, battery, molestation, and harassment from 1996 until 2016.

In a plea deal, Nassar admitted to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in exchange for eight other charges against him being dropped and no charges involving other sexual assault incidents being added afterward.

His expected release date from federal custody is January 30, 2068.

Afterward, he will be immediately transferred to a Michigan state prison to serve out his consecutive state sentence of 40 to 175 years, which will run concurrently with the other state sentence of 40 to 125 years, before being eligible for parole.

VICTIMS SLAM INVESTIGATION

On September 15, 2021, gymnasts testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee on the FBI's mishandling of their allegations against Nassar.

In his opening statement, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Richard Durbin called the FBI's handling of the case "a stain on the bureau."

"In the 15 month period that FBI officials shirked their responsibility, Nassar abused at least 70 young athletes.

"For many of them, this was a continuation, but for others, they were abused for the first time while the FBI sat on the case," Durbin said.

A distraught Simone Biles accused the FBI of turning a blind eye to the sexual abuse committed by the disgraced sports doctor.

The seven-time Olympian broke down and had to pause to regain her composure as she testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“It feels like the FBI turned a blind eye to us,” Biles said

“I don’t want another young gymnast or Olympic athlete to experience the horror I and hundreds of others have endured. How much is a little girl worth?”

Gymnast Aly Raisman called for an investigation of USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic committee.

She said the victims of Nassar's abuse have "been treated like adversaries."

In her testimony, Raisman said she felt pressured by the FBI to consent to a plea deal for Nassar, adding that the federal agency and others "knew that Nassar molested children and did nothing to restrict his access."

"All we are asking for is when a child goes to gymnastics or goes to school or does anything that they can be spared abuse," she told the panel.
