The Issue: AG Letitia James’ lawsuit against the NYPD for excessive force during the George Floyd protests.

To state Attorney General Letitia James, Gov. Cuomo and anyone else looking to blame the NYPD for the Black Lives Matter protests and claim the NYPD showed insensitivity to its cause: You’ve got to be kidding (“Tish James’ Rancid NYPD Suit,” Editorial, Jan. 15).

During the BLM protests of 2020, all we saw was the burning and looting of our cities. One merely has to look at Portland and Soho to see the lawlessness that was rampant in our cities, all fueled by politicians instructing police departments to stand down and allow these “protesters” to vent their anger.

And now Cuomo is saying that James and her ilk are right in bringing charges against the NYPD and attacking officers as racists. I do not think so.

Our country is being destroyed by all of this senseless pandering.

Alan Brooks, Brooklyn

James faulted the mayor and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea for not doing more to calm the violence in overwhelmingly peaceful protests in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

I’m perplexed as to how arson, rioting, looting, etc. can be part of peaceful protests. This is a classic case of an oxymoron, but the real moron is James.

Frank Brady, Manhattan

James filing a lawsuit against the NYPD is absolutely outrageous, and I am offended by her blatant political agenda.

I live in the Hudson Valley, and I have always loved going into New York City until these past several years. First, the bail reform, then Mayor de Blasio and his ineptness and lastly the rioting that this city saw over the spring and summer.

The only reason there’s any semblance of feeling safe is because of the men and women in blue. Yet their hands are constantly being tied in doing the job that they’re supposed to do.

They were the ones being attacked. They absolutely have a target on them. They have had no help from their mayor or the governor — and now the attorney general who is bringing this ridiculous lawsuit.

Gina Beckmann, Salt Point

I doubt that AG James has ever had to control what she refers to as a “peaceful protest” after it has morphed into an unruly, aggressive mob scene.

Put yourself in the police officers’ position, James, and imagine someone, possibly unmasked, screaming and spitting in your face, threatening you, calling you filthy names with a noisy, angry crowd egging him or her on.

Don’t attack the entire NYPD for the actions of a few, who might have a shorter fuse than others. Praise the officers who put their lives on the line to keep the peace and do a damn good job of it.

Dick Mills, Bardonia

Cuomo wants the NYPD to apologize for the destruction caused by those who destroyed shops, destroyed police vehicles, bothered citizens eating in restaurants, etc.

As a lifelong New York resident, I have just one question: Is Cuomo a lunatic?

The NYPD should not apologize. To all New York Democrats who vote: Don’t you think it’s about time you think about who you’re voting for? Has Cuomo or de Blasio made your life better?

Thousands have left New York. Maybe it’s time to vote these lunatics out of office, unless you like taxes and crime.

Owen Kelly, Valley Stream

Here in New York, where the city never sleeps and the shootings never stop, nearly all in neighborhoods of color, James finds the time to go after the only entity that stands between the public and total lawlessness and disorder, the NYPD.

Of course it’s the cops’ fault that marauding bands of deeply concerned young adults were so traumatized by Confederate-general statues and the like that they were forced to destroy property and loot clothing stores in support of social justice.

The only good thing about “Tish” is that she makes Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance look like he knows what he’s doing.
