An ex-pal of Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner claims the German drunkenly confessed to her abduction, saying 'she didn't scream'.

Helge Busching, 48, has explained parts of Brueckner's shady past, with his former acquaintance now behind bars for the rape of an elderly American woman.

Mr Busching says he learned of the horrid details of Brueckner's disturbing history by discovering harrowing sexual abuse videos in Portugal when he raided his house after the rapist was arrested.

Helge said he crossed paths with former acquaintance Brueckner in 2008 at a kite festival in Spain, where the convicted sex criminal allegedly mentioned something that suggested he may be involved in the disappearance of Madeleine from Praia Da Luz, Portugal, the year before.

Helge said he had been avoiding Portugal due to the high police presence caused by the tot's disappearance, and when on the topic a tipsy Brueckner allegedly muttered: “She didn’t scream.”

Helge told BILD: “I immediately checked what he said. I thought, ‘He knows that. He has something to do with it’.

“I knew his background from the videos . . . I got really sick.

“But he also checked that I understood that and then left at night."

He had earlier bragged about his ability to scale apartment complexes and get inside them, his former mate claimed.

Helge, a petty criminal, said he tipped off the Met via their Madeleine hotline after the chilling chat. He claimed they took no interest until he called them again nine years later and meetings were set up.

He and Manfred Seyferth headed to Brueckner's home after he was jailed, reportedly to steal diesel he stored. They also took a gun and a camcorder that transpired to have tapes of his horrific abuse on it.

This was used to convict him of the rape of the aforementioned American woman.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it. I said to Manni, ‘Come over here and see what’s going on’.

“He watched for two minutes and said, ‘I don’t want to know anything about that’."

The horror clips also showed the abuse of a young teenage girl, Helge claimed.

He said Manfred threw the gun in a reservoir and he discarded the tapes, with police and his lawyer advising him to keep quiet.

Helge added: “I wish there would finally be peace. It is clear to me that Maddie is no longer alive.

“As sad as that is, it would be better if her body was found.”
