A 62-year-old man has died today after being bitten by a dog at a house in Wales.

Police were called to a property on Holt Road, Wrexham, north Wales, which is reportedly home to several animals, at 11.44am on Monday.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said the man was having a heart attack after being bitten by the dog, but died at the scene despite efforts of paramedics.

The dog was euthanised by a vet at the scene while other dogs kept at the property were removed by trained dog handlers and will be kept in kennels temporarily while North Wales Police continue with their enquiries.

A local resident told The Mirror that the owner of the dogs was a breeder of American Bullies, adding that the owner’s father, or his partner’s father, were looking after the dogs while he was away watching Wrexham AFC play at the FA Trophy final at Wembley on Sunday.

The local added that when the father let the dogs out, one of them attacked him which caused him to go into cardiac arrest.

The dog owners were said to be making their way back from Wembley at the time the tragic incident happened.

Members of the 62-year-old’s family have requested privacy at the difficult time.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called this morning, Monday, May 23, at 11:33hrs to reports of a medical emergency in the Holt Road area of Wrexham.

‘We sent three emergency ambulances, two rapid response vehicles and the Wales Air Ambulance to the scene.’
