Man, 66, charged with murder of woman, 71, who died after 'attack' at cemetery | The Sun

A MAN has been charged with murdering an elderly woman who was found dead in a cemetery.

Ann Blackwood, 71, died following an alleged attack in in Stubbington, Hampshire, on Monday.

Police have now charged Martin Suter with the murder of Ann.

The 66-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court today.

Police were called to Crofton Cemetery following reports of an assault.

Ann was treated at the scene by paramedics but sadly couldn't be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

Hampshire Police said: "We were called to Lychgate Green at 3:47pm after the woman, who we can now name as Ann Blackwood from Lee-On-The-Solent, had been assaulted in the cemetery.

"She was treated initially by police officers and our colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Following a thorough investigation Martin Suter of Portsmouth Road in Lee-On-The-Solent has been charged with murder.

"We would like to thank the local community for their assistance and patience whilst we have carried out our enquiries."
