A MAN has died in hospital after a horror attack on an Edinburgh street.
The serious assault took place around 8pm on Thursday night in the Niddrie area of the capital.
Emergency crews rushed the scene on Niddrie Marischal Road.
The 30-year-old man was raced by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he tragically died earlier today.
Cops have said they are treating the death as unexplained and have launched a probe into the incident.
A force spokesperson told how extra officers will be in the area following the tragedy.
Anyone who has any concerns or information about the attack has been urged to approach the officers or get in touch with police.
A report will also be made to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8pm on Thursday, 5 May, 2022, police were called to a report of a 30-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Niddrie Marischal Road, at its junction with Niddrie Marischal Grove, Edinburgh.
"He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died on Saturday, 7 May, 2022.

"Officers are treating the death as unexplained and enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.
"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
"As we carry out enquiries, more officers will be in the local area. If you have any concerns, please approach these officers.
"Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and anyone with information should contact 101 with reference 3262 of 5 May, 2022."

In a seperate incident elsewhere in the city, a woman has died after she was knocked down by a car in Lochend last night.
Emergency crews raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 10.50pm.
The woman, aged 62, was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where she sadly passed away today.
