Man in hospital after ‘loose cat’s eye’ smashes through car window on motorway

A man has been left seriously injured after a loose cats-eye pierced through his car window and struck him.

The individual, a man in his 40s, was driving along the A1 southbound near junction 3 for Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on Saturday March 30 when an object hit his car.

Hertfordshire Police identified the object to be a loose cats-eye, a light embedded into the road along motorways in England.

The cats-eye had hit another vehicle before it rebounded and struck the man's car in the windshield.

It is understood the man was immediately rushed to hospital with "serious injuries" and the road was closed for a "number of hours."

In a statement, Hertfordshire Police said a loose "cats-eye" became "airborne" and "collided with a second vehicle," HertsLive reported.

The man's current condition is unknown but the force is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to come forward.

Police say the collision occurred at around 4.46pm and have asked drivers to contact the non-emergency number 101.
